School Transport Consultation

Middlesbrough Council is interested in hearing your views on changes to the faith school transport policy. It is proposed to withdraw free home to school transport for pupils attending a faith school on the basis of religion or belief, where they are not statutorily entitled to it on the grounds of being from a low-income family. Under the proposal this service, which is currently provided on a discretionary basis, would be withdrawn in a phased manner from September 2013.

The proposed changes would bring greater fairness and equity in transport provision across the town, as the current policy gives additional entitlements to some pupils that others do not enjoy.

A copy of the consultation document is available on this page. A number of public consultation events have also been arranged and the details of these are included in the consultation document. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the proposal and use the online response form to give us your views.

Please note:  As a result of planned industrial action there has been a change in date of one of the public events being held in support of this consultation.  The meeting arranged for 30 November 2011 has been rescheduled and will take place at 6:00pm on 8 December 2011 at Trinity Catholic College, Saltersgill Avenue.

The event is not currently available for consultation.
